The quality of Clerkenwell design week relies a lot on the showrooms of the area as the pop up shows and open-air installations are average if not poor, lacking imagination and craftsmanship.
It has been tough for the CDW organizers to offer a well-curated selection of designers and companies beyond the already established in the neighbourhood. Year after year they repeat the same mistakes and absence of passion for design. It is a show that shows just ambition for money but not for design.
It is a real pity as the possibilities are immense, the audience the right one which can be expanded and the charm of the location exists in abundance.
However, there is always something that surprises and stops the heart which is a wonderful relieve and motivation as those moments does not abound during the hunting of beautiful things but keep us going like the hunter that discovers a footprint now and then hoping to find the prey that will allow putting food on the table.
These are ten pieces that stopped me in my tracks. Hope you like them

Floor by Aectual
The trend on terrazo continues and this floor half made my a robot (the white lines you see on the image drawn by “it”), beautiful in its perfection and possibilities

Object by Arte & Stili
I say object because the sculpture-like quality of this piece makes it appealing as a decorative object in its own right or as the base for a lamp.

Primavera Collection, Mutina by Domus
Terrazo appears again in these big format tiles in a very subtle, graceful and delicate design pattern. Worth to note it is proper terrazzo..not a print that looks like terrazzo.

Wall light by Grok
It is a great piece that mixes the feel of a natural material with the impeccability of led light technology. One source of light, two lighting effects. Lovely proportions.

Table lamp by Haberdashery
When playfulness meets simplicity. If you move the lamp up (the frosted part) the colour of the light changes to a warm white, if you move it down it goes to red. For all the moods.

Wall light by Imagin Lighting
There is nothing original regarding this lamp, but the beauty of its proportions compensates it, making it a very attractive one.

Carpet tiles by Modulyss
Carpet tiles in offices tend to go to the safe side either using neutral colors or very linear patterns.
This abstract design, clouds like, offers a refreshing alternative, beautiful colors too.

Bowl by Sam Lander
A not glass bowl, made in an interesting way. The shape is a classic, isn’t it?

Flooring by Silcastone
Another terrazzo inspired floor in this case made with recycled materials in the United Kingdom.

Armchair by Stellar Works
Elegant, lovely proportions, comfortable, with a touch of austerity that is very charming.
