There are pieces of furniture that define the room they are in. For an entrance hall the console is the most important, not just in terms of the look but also for why it is there in the first place.

These halls have many functions: they are the first area you step into once you open the door of your home (hence the first impression that greets you); they are connectors: they lead you to the different rooms; They help you to prepare yourself as best you can for facing the outside world: a mirror to check you’re appearance, a space where your coat, umbrella even shoes are kept;  They provide a place to put your keys, your mail or just that “thing” that you need to take with you before you leave and finally, they really show  your nature and the appreciation and care that you have for your home.  The console is to your home what your shoes are to your outfit. No exaggeration intended!

One of their main roles being connectors, entrance halls become spaces to circulate, not to stay in. Because of this they need to have as little furniture as possible. You can remove storage units, chairs, cabinets but the one thing that will remain, that has to remain is the console as it fulfills most of the important tasks we mentioned above plus giving to the space a dignity that the entrance to your home deserves. Just its presence makes that space to be perceived as a “hall”, even when small in size, as opposed to a mere corridor. This is no small responsibility.

That is why choosing the right console cannot be left to chance. The design of it, its dimensions, its proportions and its finish will elevate the room to a level which identifies you.

Below I would like to share with you six of the consoles I find beautiful, masculine, elegant and certainly adequate for enhancing any entrance hall that aspires to excel.

Float Console. Designer: Patrick Norguet by Glas Italia.  It will give to any surrounding a contemporary look with the plus that it will work very well with an elaborate or discreet deco.

MG 5200 Console by OAK Industria Arredamenti inspired by French Furniture. XVIII century. A classic design like this will certainly give that elegant touch. I totally believe that mixing period and contemporary pieces will give to any home a more unique identity.

Credence Console Design and Production Nicolas et Nicolas. The beauty of this piece relies not just on the design but in its detailing and finishes. The bended and burnt wood in contrast with the perfection of the top offers a very interesting and sophisticated look.

Radiant Slim II Console, Collection Euphoria by Malabar Emotional Design.  This piece is contemporary in conception but there is an antique look to it that makes it so appealing; an eclectic piece.

Spider Console, designer: Umberto Asnago by F.lli Orsenigo.  A fascinating piece due to its simplicity and use of materials: steel, ceramic and glass.  Make sure the rest of the look matches this aesthetic. It will be a XXI century flat in essence.

Surf-Up Console Design and Production Gareth Devonald Smith. The sleek design of this console is an interesting contrast with the somehow aggressive shape of it. It is in this duality plus the use of just 2 materials why I consider this piece a beautiful one.
