The Spring for the interior design industry in our country starts with the London Design Week in the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour.

Products from different sectors: textiles, wallpapers, lighting, rugs, furniture and accessories show their collections or/and new products.

Fabrics and wallpapers are probably the most active areas in regards to the proposal of new designs, colours, textures and patterns which due to their variety are very important contributors to the definition of what will be the different trends in the year ahead of us.

It is not possible to choose one trend even less a product that can embody the spirit of the year in terms of design however as a designer I was seduced by products that share certain characteristics: beautiful design, muted and dark colours, great craftsmanship and a natural feel or look.

The effect using these schemes is that of a serene mood, an understated elegance and a testimony to self-confidence and savoir-faire.

I would like to show you some of them.

Wallpaper by Arte International

The geometric pattern, the texture that reminds us indigenous beadings,  the earthy colour and the scale is a homage to so many cultures around the world that found in this elements a vocabulary for expressing their believes and sense of aesthetics.

Wallpaper by Timorous Beasties

Design with 30 years of history looks contemporary and fresh probably due to the current interest in nature, the colour taking it to the present.

Wallpaper, distributed by Abbott and Boyd

Technology is taking everything to the limit and the reproduction of wood on this wall covering is a testimony of how far it has gone creating the feel and the colour of nature at a fraction of the cost.

Wallpaper by Style Library

The dark red in contrast with the burnt gold transports us to the old Egypt, Mesopotamia and other ancient cultures. The pattern brings us back to today.

Wallpaper, distributed by Abbott and Boyd

Just in case reproductions are not for you, wallpapers made with natural wood veneers are available too.

Fabric, distributed by Altfield

The photograph does not make it justice but this is a wonderful fabric with a pattern that references nature in the material that is made and the feel of it.

Fabric by Timorous Beasties

A very beautiful pattern on this translucent fabric where craftsmanship, use of colour and the direct reference to nature makes it feel like a classic coming from the arts and craft movement.

Fabric Black Edition by Romo

The dimension of the threads and the texture of it offer a great contrast to the sophistication of the colour scheme and the well-structured grid.

Fabric by De La Cuona

A rich, textured, perfect mix of black and beige for making a statement: Masculine and dramatic.

Fabric by Lizzo

The craftsmanship in this fabric, embroidery, and the pattern reference many cultures and live in beauty and elegance.

Fabric Mark Alexander by Romo

This fabric is not to be just seen but felt. The traditional pattern, usually in wool, has been printed on beautifully light linen creating a great version of this icon of design.

Chair by Flexform

I had to include this wonderful design, although no new, due to the impeccability of the structure living harmoniously with the exceptional work in leather of seat and back.

Wall light by Gareth Devonald Smith, Porta Romana

The shape and texture of this wall light take us to ancient times made contemporary thanks to the use of colour.

Wall light, Porta Romana

This wall light sits on the wall gracefully like a leaf transported gently by the wind.

THE EXCEPTIONS

I wanted to include these pieces which although in bright colours have a lot to say in the perfect room.

Wallpaper by Cole & Son

This new collection by Cole & Son in collaboration with Fornasetti is a joy mixing many styles and urban graphic references.

Dining Chair by Julian Chichester

It is the combination of this traditionally inspired chair with its beading pattern and the modern fabric echoing the circular motif that makes it a very attractive chair.
