In one week one of the most important events, worldwide, in the interior design industry will be happening: The Salone del Mobile 2019 in Milan.

With more than 1.000 companies exhibiting their new products it is an extraordinary opportunity to understand new trends, colours, furniture, a rich spectrum of design proposals; brands will be expressing their concerns and thoughts through the pieces they create and the stands they design for displaying them.

Even when you may think you are not interested in design or fashion the precise fact that you are alive makes you choose items on a daily basis that have a resonance within you.

So even when not taking a position you are already taking one.

That is the wonderful price we pay for being alive: The constant expression of ourselves.

Hence why design is so important, it is a mean for communicating ideas, emotions, and preferences; basically: reality and fiction.

Some of the items presented will have a bigger impact than others influencing the way we create and dress our environments either at work or at home.

Trends will emerge.

I was wondering if I had to choose one image that is design related and which can represent an idea of how tastes will be changing and shaping themselves this year which one would I choose? This as a way of anticipating what I’m going to see there for you.

I went through my database of images and found this picture I took this year of these handles which really impressed me.

The reason why I had this feeling is that thanks to our computerized world we see extraordinary lines, curves and volumes constantly in objects, architecture, accessories etc. that are just “perfect”,  neat; the trace of human hands do not existent on many of them.

And that is precisely why these handles caught my attention.

They are made of a material that looks luxurious but there is texture, there is a level of imperfection on them, they have been finished by human hands indeed (at least I was told that).

This desire of pieces expressing their connection to the human condition is going to be for me a trend that we will see more and more in the design world.

We are craving for more “humanity” and “nature” (organic forms).

Let’s see what I find and if this guess will be present in Milan somehow.

The Salone is the biggest event happening during the Milan design week so I’m sure I will find if not this proposal certainly other equally interesting ones.

I will report for you during and when I’m back.

Long life to design :)!
