Keeping up to date in any profession is a duty, in part pleasure, in part responsibility.
In the world of interiors this is even more important when the design we produce is an expression of the XXI century: art, fashion and technology are the main forces that shape the way we understand the now and how we consider it needs to be portrayed and experienced.
Every designer constantly takes decisions with regards to which one of these forces takes the lead role and which will follow.
This is why it is so important to visit shows where the focus is to provide us with the information, tools and inspiration to create new ways of living, sleeping, relaxing, entertaining, cooking, bathing and socializing.
One of the most important shows in the world from this point of view is the Salone del Mobile in Milan which will open today and continue to the 17th of April.
I’m very committed to keep myself informed with regards to what is going on in the world of interior design: materials, lighting, furniture and soft furnishings.
In this sense London is a fantastic city with more than 5 design districts where throughout the year showrooms show the best of design. They are fed and spiced up by important events like Clerkenwell design week, London design week, 100 % design, Decorex, Surface Show, Focus, Tent, Super Brands, Design Junction to mention the most important.
However there is not a London event that shows under one single roof what is going on in terms of contemporary design.
I think this need is however being covered by Salone del Mobile in Milan or at least that is my expectation.
Because of this I will be visiting the show and will make it my duty to inform you what I saw that grasped my attention and what trends I can recognise in the show.
So a simple post ending with a huge question mark that represents my and your expectations.
Looking forward to informing you next week!
