The Salone del Mobile brings a lot of expectations in regards to what will be presented in terms of new products and materials however for me the most attractive and inspiring part is to experience the design of the stands, how the different brands design their space so it conveys an aesthetic proposal and in doing so they give the perfect space and surroundings for their products.

From this perspective I saw stands that were fun, joyful, impeccable, austere, elegant, innovative, creative, risky, etc.

How to choose the best one?

This is a tricky work as the best will be determined by personal and professional preferences.

In this case in particular for me the best stand needs to have the following attributes:

_It needs to express a theme or motive.

_Be beautiful and for beautiful I mean it needs to please the eye, be harmonious

_It needs to create a sense of home, one needs to be taken to a journey where oneself can be seen living in that space, enjoying it.

_ Great detail and craftsmanship in the furniture, art work and accessories chosen.

_Use of materials that expresses good taste, serenity, comfort and confidence where being sophisticated is a consequence of being able to choose details, materials and objects that work beautifully together in harmony with a touch of discretion.

_ A color scheme that works.

_A touch of edge.

For me the stand that at a good level achieved all the above mentioned points is the Gianfranco Ferre Home one.

The theme that inspired the interiors of the stand is the Scottish Highlands represented by the tartan pattern (present in the carpet), the atmospheric environment (translated in those beautiful milky glass prisms with plants in them), the wood and the dark colors.

The edge in the proposal is the use of the motive of the Tartan on the carpet in black and white which pushes the design to a limit of uncertainty but somehow with the furniture and the glass structures it clicks, it works. Certainly there is talent in being able to achieve that tense balance.

The color scheme in browns, ochre and muted colors and the presence of natural woods dominating the scheme reinforces the feel of the Scottish reference.

Everything works nicely and when walking from room to room the feel is that of being in somebody’s home; somebody with a refined, measured and unique taste.

That is why for me it was the best stand this year.

Please have a look at the picture, what do you think?
