With this post I’m fulfilling my promise to inform about what I saw in the Salone del Mobile in Milan 2016; a commitment that started the previous week when I shared my perception of those stands that were outstanding for me.
Something will always be lost in the transference of data and what I aim to share with you is no exception to this rule.
Not unlike the challenge that you will face when looking to furnish your home. Overwhelming choice: qualities, styles, prices etc will make that task a mammoth one, increasing the possibility of failure and frustration.
To reduce this risk firstly identify the level of those things you are about to see and then once identified choose those that matches your life style and budget.
You will see:
1. Pieces with great design, but well or badly made
2. Pieces with bad design, but with or without great craftsmanship.
3. Pieces with great design at a low or high price.
4. Pieces with bad design at a high or low price.
Also don’t forget to keep always your vision in mind, it is your home and it should feel like that.
Please be attentive that good design does not necessarily mean good or outstanding materials.
Now, how I approached my task when I had all those options in front of me? this was the criterion I used for choosing the items I am about to share with you:
1. I decided to focus on modern and contemporary design pieces.
2. Pieces of exceptional beauty or beautiful as a minimum condition.
3. Pieces of great craftsmanship
4. Pieces that are innovative either in their aesthetic proposal or in the use of materials.
For me a minimum of quality has to be present in every one of these pieces.
I have seen some of the pieces in the show already so I have kept the focus on those that either are new to me or that I have not seen in the flesh.
Even though I tried to establish some rationality to this selection, the truth is that the selection has been influenced by my personal taste, preferences and vision.
It is in that mix of a rational and subjective approach where you are going to find the right balance which will help you to have the certainty that your home will be as close as possible to the beauty and comfort you want to experience once it is finished.
I have classified the selection per category, trying to make it easier to appreciate.
Hope you enjoy it.
